I was doing some cooking and I tried using the clock app on my iPhone to set a timer to tell me when the pasta would be ready which is usually in about 10-11 minutes.

But I have my iPhone set to auto-lock after 2 minutes if it’s not used. So when I go check on the timer I might have to unlock the phone. I thought wouldn’t it be a great idea if they made it such that if you’re using the timer, it would just show the countdown on the lock screen — oh yeah, I’m totally a design genius! ;)

Of course, one of the reason why you’d use the lock function is so that if someone gets a hold of your phone, they can’t just get in and use it and/or see all your personal data. Sometimes when I go to a coffee shop, I see people get up and leave their phone where they were sitting.

I don’t understand why you’d ever do that — my phone is always either in my hand or in my pocket. But I digress…

Then I thought… maybe in that situation having a timer countdown on the lock screen isn’t such a great idea. What if someone does pick up the phone… could just simply be someone working at the coffee shop… and happens to turn it out. And what they see is a timer counting down and no one there to explain why.

That person would probably freak out and be like “OMG!!! IT’S A BOMB!! EVERYBODY OUT!!!” Now everybody’s in a panic running for their lives.

In the mean while, you’re trying to walk back with your cup of steaming hot chai latte hoping someone didn’t take your seat so you can continue that game of Words with Friends — and you had this perfect 7-letter play that you were going to place over, not just one, but TWO DW spaces. Not to mention one of your letters is an X and that’s like 67 points right there. Well, of course you spill your drink with everyone running crazy around you. And now you’re like “What the hell is my phone?!”

Yeah… maybe not such a great idea.
